About Chris Hierlihy

Chris is an emerging Guelph potter. His pots, which are typified by a reserved aesthetic, are constantly in a state of evolution as new surfaces are developed, forms are refined and creative applications of techniques explored. Currently much of the work involves the telling of personal narratives through imagery created with paper resists and sgraffito. Chris also takes commissions, and is happy to work with clients to produce high quality work that satisfies their specific needs. Chris’ work is intended to be incorporated into daily life. To this end all the pots are food safe and usable in both the microwave and dishwasher.

Since completing his degree in Studio Art from the University of Guelph, Chris has been continuously active in the arts, both producing and educating. His mediums have included batik, painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking and music. As an educator he has coordinated and acted as the technician for the City of Guelph’s pottery program, taught at camps, designed and delivered the art programming at an outdoor education center and taught at the Ottawa School of Art. He continues to teach through the pottery department at the Delhi Community Center. Through the fall and winter of 2006-2007 Chris attended the second year of Sheridan’s Ceramic program.

As of May 2008 Chris has begun an apprenticeship with Scott Barnim of Dundas, Ontario.

Chris is proud to be an active member of the Guelph Creative Arts Association, the Guelph Studio Tour, the Hamilton Potters Guild, The Waterloo Potter’s Guild and Fusion.
